Samsung’s Premium Flagship Phones In Early 2024 Review: Samsung Galaxy S24+ & S24

The long-anticipated Galaxy S24 series has finally debuted, putting an end to the myriad of rumors and daily leaks that preceded it. Serving as a solid yet incremental update over its predecessor, the S23 models, the new Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 boast a refreshed and refined design. Featuring flat Victus 2 panels and a flat aluminum frame with a new matte finish, the devices have caught the attention of tech enthusiasts. Noteworthy is the return of the 1440p OLED display on the Galaxy S24+, reminiscent of the Galaxy S20+ from 2020. This premium 6.7-inch LTPO Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen flaunts a 513ppi, 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, HDR10+, and up to 2,600nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 maintains the size of its predecessor but adopts a 6.2-inch LTPO Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with extended 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

An essential upgrade lies in the chipset, with the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 employing the Exynos 2400 in most markets and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US, Canada, and China. Storage options vary, with the S24+ offering 256GB and 512GB variants, both equipped with UFS 4.0 chips and 12GB of RAM. The S24, on the other hand, has global models with 128GB UFS 3.1 and 256GB UFS 4.0, accompanied by 8GB of RAM. The camera setup mirrors that of the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23, featuring a 50MP OIS primary, a 10MP 3x telephoto, and a 12MP ultra-wide at the back, along with a 12MP front camera with autofocus for selfies. Additional features include Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support in the S24+ and a larger 4,900mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. The S24’s battery capacity has increased to 4,000mAh, with similar charging capabilities as its predecessor. Despite these upgrades, some limitations persist, such as the absence of UFS 4.0 chips in the 128GB base version of the Galaxy S24. Nevertheless, both models continue Samsung’s commitment to an eco-friendly retail box, including a 3A USB-C-C cable and a SIM ejection tool. In conclusion, the Galaxy S24 series stands as a commendable addition to Samsung’s lineup, offering a blend of design enhancements and technological upgrades.

Conclusion

In wrapping up our exploration of the Galaxy S24 and S24+, it’s evident that these models mark a notable progression from the S23 series. The S24+, in particular, stands out as a significant upgrade, leaning closer to the “Ultra” category. Noteworthy improvements include the reinstated QHD resolution, a slightly larger and notably brighter display, and a consistent screen size for the Galaxy S24. RAM sees an upgrade as well, with the S24+ now boasting 12GB across the board, while the Galaxy S24 retains its 8GB configuration. Battery capacity has seen a substantial increase in both the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 models, enhancing overall performance. Despite these advancements, a potential area for enhancement lies in the telephoto capabilities, as a higher-resolution option could enhance digital zoom capabilities alongside the existing optical zoom. Additional 2024 upgrades include the adoption of the more robust and scratch-resistant Armor Aluminum 2 material for the matte middle frame. The continuation of IP68 and dual-sided Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection ensures durability. The allure of seven years of software support and One UI 6.1 is a significant advantage, offering incremental functionality improvements. The multimedia experience is heightened by the hybrid stereo speaker setup, now slightly louder. The camera setup remains solid and versatile, with the Exynos 2400 showcasing comparable overall performance to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Galaxy S24+ emerges more compelling choice than Galaxy S24 if size doesn’t matters to you with its QHD display, ample RAM, and extended software support, presenting a worthy successor to the S23+. However, it’s essential to note that the Plus variant may not attract as much attention from buyers. At last, while the Galaxy S24+ is a commendable choice, considerations must be made. The Galaxy S23 Ultra presents an appealing alternative with an S Pen, superior cameras, and no Exynos uncertainty, all at a potentially lower cost compared to the Galaxy S24+ specially and Galaxy S24.
