Samsung’s Best Budget-Friendly A-Series Phones In Early 2023 Review: Samsung Galaxy A54, Samsung Galaxy A34, & Samsung Galaxy A24

A line of mid-range smartphones from Samsung called the Galaxy A series blends affordability with cutting-edge features and the most recent smartphone technology. The “A” in “Galaxy” stands for “Alpha,” since the 2014 release of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha was the first device in the line. Generally speaking, the more contemporary and technologically advanced the phone is, the higher the number is in the model name following the A. Newer models frequently build upon earlier generations. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy A54, which replaced the A53 from the previous year, was introduced in 2023. The A54, A34, and A24 are three great new A series phones from Samsung that were announced this year and feature next-generation cameras, infinity displays, and long-lasting batteries. The Galaxy A54 is evidence that you should not alter a successful recipe. It is the same, yet different but basically the same. At least, that is how Samsung sees it.

The new model has just about surpassed the 200g weight limit as we examine the spec sheet to identify the variances in the material. That is all the more shocking given that the screen diagonal has slightly decreased and the battery capacity has not changed. It is obvious that the chipset is fresh. Compared to the 1280 in the previous model, the extra 100 in the Exynos 1380 implies two more potent CPU cores and an extra GPU core. That is looking like it will be the biggest hardware advancement this year, and it could even be worth a few grams. The triple camera array on the rear now features a 50MP unit as its focal point instead of the 64MP one from the A53 5G, and the depth sensor has been removed. We are not approaching this as a downgrade because the nominal reduction in resolution does not imply anything. The selfie camera, as well as the ultra-wide and macro cameras, are unaltered. Of course, staying the same might also be advantageous. For instance, the Galaxy A54 maintains the IP67 rating, which has been available on midrange Galaxy A-series devices for a few generations. Additionally, stereo speakers are included, just as before, and the microSD slot is still available.

The Galaxy A34 is available and is making every effort to build upon an effective value formula. The A34 is similar to the A33 5G it replaced, although there are several important distinctions as well. The A34 has expanded significantly. Its diagonal has increased to 6.6 inches from 6.4 inches in the model from last year, and its body is now bigger and heavier. As a result, the A34 is now bigger than the Galaxy A54 at this time. The new A34’s display is quicker with a 120Hz refresh rate in addition to being larger. Additionally, it has lower bezels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, making it shorter and broader. The chipset is another noticeable difference. Samsung opted for a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor this time around rather than depending on an internal Exynos chipset as it did last year. Given that the Galaxy A34 did receive a new Samsung Exynos 1380 processor, it is an intriguing development. The Galaxy A34 makes sure to adhere closely to an established formula without making significant modifications aside from these adjustments. A dual speaker configuration and the IP67 ingress protection grade are two crucial specifications features. The big 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging is still there on the Galaxy A34. With a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro, and a 13MP selfie camera, its camera mostly resembles that of last year. However, this time there is no depth sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy A24 is likely the Samsung phone that makes the greatest financial sense to purchase. The Galaxy A20 range, unlike the A10 and A00 series, has consistently provided some strong deals over the years, and the new A24 4G is shaping up to be another one of those. The Galaxy A24 has all the features you are searching for in a low-cost phone, including a fluid screen, decent cameras, extended battery life, and an attractive design. It is not a fast phone, let alone one that supports gaming, but it seems like it could manage everything else just fine. It has two glossy panels and a matte frame in the conventional flat design. A pleasant bonus for this price range is the 6.5-inch screen’s utilization of a 1080p Super AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. Speaking of tasty delights, the camera division also looks fantastic. A 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro camera support a 50MP OIS main on the rear. There is also a 13MP selfie camera. The Helio G99 chipset truly is not much to brag about, but it does have two quick CPU cores, so it should be able to run your standard Android apps without any issues. The 5,000mAh battery is appreciated, and we anticipate that it will perform admirably with that chipset. The most recent One UI 5.1 is combined with Android 13 on the Galaxy A24. Its reasonable for its price at the end.

Conclusion

We believe that the A54 returns the series to its proper course. We get a more powerful chipset than we had last year (though, admittedly, it is basically on pace with the A52s from two years ago), better battery life, and an even prettier display. Despite not being very eye-catching, the relatively generic style instantly reveals your brand loyalty and may easily be mistaken for the company’s flagship. The new main camera is a substantial improvement over the one in the A53 and is among the finest in its class, maybe even outperforming its competition. Along with the less-than-impressive ultra-wide, the selfie camera also produces excellent images. A Samsung alternative handset would be a right away practical choice. The Galaxy A52s 5G is still a good option and one of our favorites because to its improved chipset, but it is growing older now, therefore we recommend the Galaxy A53 5G. The A34 is clearly superior in terms of specifications, but only if you can find a decent bargain on it. It does provide a camera system with a greater resolution and, perhaps, slightly better EIS, but that is about it. However, as it is a 2022 model, you will have to make up with less extensive software support. The Galaxy A34 delivers a pretty well-rounded mid-range camera experience, although it does not significantly outperform its A33 5G predecessor in the photography area. The triple primary camera configuration offers flexibility as well.

The Samsung Galaxy A24 is a reliable option with a well-balanced set of specifications for its pricing. The 90Hz AMOLED screen was smooth, color-accurate, and extremely bright, which is why we liked it. Additionally, some people could find the simple, uncomplicated style to be a show-stopper. The selfie and primary cameras on the Galaxy A24 also pleasantly pleased us with their high-quality photos and videos, but the ultra-wide and macro cameras proved to be more of a novelty than a practical tool. The battery life of the Galaxy A24 is exceptional, and its charging speed is reasonable for its price. Many customers who seek longer run hours on a single charge may find the battery to be a genuine pleasure when combined with the energy-saving processor.
